Technology Is Broken, but it's not your fault. Well, if you make no effort to backup your files and lose them, it's your fault. But if you set up a backup process and it doesn't work, you're off the hook for at least part of the blame. Here I am explaining how Technology Is Broken at the ITEC conference in Philadelphia on November 14th, 2007.
Technology is broken for the 285 million people in the US who are not in the business. You know this if you support technology at work, because you also support tehcnology at home for yourself, your friends, your family, and for anyone else who can guilt you into fixing the messes they have made. But even when you beat your technical problem in the short term, the long term technology deck is stacked against us all. Can we beat the technology house at its own game? Let me describe some ways you can fight back against technology, and WIN.

How to fix that technology |
Examples |

Security |
It's a long battle with no rest breaks. Watch for hackers on the outside and careless or malicious employees on the inside. |
|
Backup problems |
Follow a backup system that runs automatically and copies data locally and offsite. Let's make this simple: No Data = No Company. Lost Files = Lost Money. Do those rules make backup more important now? |
|
Collaboration inside and outside the business |
Set up systems to communicate with employees, customers, and suppliers. The new surge of hosted collaboration services make this much easier than in the past. Cheaper, too. | |
Resonating with customers |
Connect to your customers by giving them information they need about your products and your company. Not a sales pitch, but a friendly introduction, because customers buy from people and companies they like and where they feel appreciated. | Blogging consultants I know and respect Interview with blogging expert Denise Wakeman
